My take on the Mark McGwire announcement.

Are we really surprised by the Mark McGwire announcement, really? I, for one, just assumed this was the case, all along. Does it change my opinion of the ball player? No, not really. So, what does this all mean? It means absolutely nothing; and, it will continue to mean nothing as long as baseball allows this behavior to continue. I am suggesting baseball allows this to continue because until they have a zero tolerance stance on substance abuse and a 100% mandatory substance testing, players will continue test fate and use substances.

Considering all of the money involved in professional sports and the constant pressure to perform, it is no wonder we have situations like the one with McGwire. Professional sports, any of them, will always have the temptation to use unnatural aids to give one an advantage over the other players. This will continue to be the case, as long as there are minor penalties to face and the chance to dodge the bullet because of random testing.

If the fans want processional sports to be clean, then 100% drug testing needs to be implemented, and random testing throughout the season. If a player is found to have banned substances, then they should face explosion from the sport. Zero tolerance needs to be the rule. Only when it becomes too risky for the players will we have a sport which is no longer tainted by substances.
